பயன்தூக்கார் செய்த உதவி நயன்தூக்கின்

நன்மை கடலின் பெரிது

பொருள்

பயன் - பலன்; வினைப்பயன்; சொற்பொருள்; செல்வம்; பழம்; அகலம்; சாறு; பால்; வாவி; அமுதம்; நீர்.

தூக்குதல் - உயர்த்துதல்; நிறுத்தல்; ஆராய்தல்; ஒப்புநோக்குதல்; மனத்திற்கொள்ளுதல்; தொங்கவிடுதல்; காண்க:தூக்கிலிடுதல்; உதவிசெய்தல்; நங்கூரம்வலித்தல்; அசைத்தல்; ஒற்றறுத்தல்.

தூக்கார் - (பயனை எண்ணி) ஆராயாமல், மனத்திற்கொள்ளாமல்

செய்த - செய்கை

உதவி - துணை; கொடை; utavi   s. help, assistance, சகாயம்; 2. gift, benefit, உபகாரம்; boon, donation.

நயன் - nayaṉ   n. id. 1. See நயம்¹. நயனில சொல்லினுஞ் சொல்லுக (குறள், 193). 2.Substance; பசை நறுந்தா துண்டு நயனில் காலைவறும்பூத் துறக்கும் வண்டு (மணி. 18, 19). 3. Relationship; உறவு (கலித். 125, 6, உரை )  

தூக்கின் - (பயன்) ஆராய்ந்து, மனத்திற்கொண்டு செய்த உதவி

நன்மை - நலம்; பயன்; உதவி; சிறப்பு; நன்னெறி; நற்குணம்; ஆக்கம்; நற்செயல்; நல்வினை; வாழ்த்துமொழி; மிகுதி; மேம்பாடு; புதுமை; அழகு; நல்லருள்; காண்க:நன்மையாதல்

கடலின் - சமுத்திரம்; ஒருபேரெண்; இராகசின்னத்துள்ஒன்று; சதயநாள்; மிகுதி.

பெரிது - peritu   id. n. [K. piridu.] Thatwhich is great, big or large; பெரியது. நன்மைகடலிற் பெரிது (குறள், 103).--adv. Greatly; மிகவும். கலங்குவள் பெரிதென (கலித். 27).

முழுப்பொருள்

இக்குறளுக்கு எனக்கு இரண்டு பொருள்கள் தோன்றுகிறது.

1) ஒரு சந்தர்பத்தில் பிறர் ஒருவர் இவ்வுதவியை இவருக்கு செய்தால் இதனால் நமக்கு இப்பயன் இவரிடம் இருந்தோ அல்லது பிறரிடம் இருந்தோ அல்லது சமுதாயத்தின் அங்கிகாரத்தினாலோ அல்லது நமது வருங்கால சந்ததியனருக்கு நல்லாசியாக வரும் என்று ஆராயாமல் மனத்திற்கொள்ளாமல் நமக்கு உதவி செய்வார் எனில் அத்தகைய உதவி மிக சிறந்ததாகும் போற்றுதலுக்கூரியது ஆகும். அத்தகைய உதவி இவ்வுதவியை செய்தால் நமக்கு இப்பயன் பின்பு கிடைக்கும் என்று ஆராய்ந்து மனத்திற்கொண்டு செய்யப்படும் உதவியை விட கடலைப்போன்று பெரிதாகும்.

பி.கு: இங்கே இரு உதவியும் போற்றுதலுக்கு உரியவையே. ஆயினும் பயன் எண்ணாமல் செய்த உதவி கடலை விட பெரியது ஆகும். 

2)  பயன் என்ன கிடைக்கும் என்று ஆராயாமல் செய்த உதவியை ஆற்றியவரை பற்றி ஆராய்ந்தால் அங்கே அடிப்படையாக இருப்பது அன்பாக இருக்கும். சக மானுடரின் மேல் கொண்ட நேசம் தனை அங்கு நாம் அறியலாம். அந்த அன்பும், நேசமும் கடலைவிட பெரியது ஆகும்.

கடல் என்றது கடல் தன்னுள் இருக்கும் வளங்களையெல்லாம் மனித குலத்துக்கு, எவ்வித பயனும் கருதாது தருவது போலவாம் பயன்கருதாமல் ஒருவர் செய்கின்ற உதவி என்று வேண்டுமானாலும் பொருள் கொள்ளலாம்.

சமஸ்கிருத பக்தி இலக்கியங்களிலே “அவ்யாஜ கருணா மூர்த்தி” என்ற சொற்றொடர் நிறைய இடங்களில் இருக்கும். இதற்கு எவ்வித காரணமும் இல்லாமலே கருணையோடு இருக்கும் இறைவன் என்ற பொருள் என்றென்பதையும் அறிக.

பரிமேலழகர் உரை 
பயன்தூக்கார் செய்த உதவி நயன் தூக்கின் - இவர்க்கு இது செய்தால் இன்னது பயக்கும் என்று ஆராய்தல் இலராய்ச் செய்த உதவியாகிய ஈரமுடைமையை ஆராயின்; நன்மை கடலின் பெரிது - அதன் நன்மை கடலினும் பெரிது ஆம். (இவை மூன்று பாட்டானும் முறையே காரணம் இன்றிச் செய்ததூஉம், காலத்தினால் செய்ததூஉம், பயன் தூக்காராய்ச் செய்ததூஉம் அளவிலவாதல் கூறப்பட்டது.).

மணக்குடவர் உரை 
தமக்கொரு பயனை நோக்காதவராய்ச் செய்த வுபகாரத்தாலுண்டாய நன்மையை யாராயின், அதனா லுண்டாய நன்மை கடலினும் பெரிது.

மு.வரதராசனார் உரை

இன்ன பயன் கிடைக்கும் என்றுஆராயாமல் ஒருவன் செய்த உதவியின் அன்புடைமையை ஆராய்ந்தால் அதன் நன்மை கடலைவிட பெரியதாகும்.

சாலமன் பாப்பையா உரை

இவருக்கு உதவினால் பிறகு நமக்கு இது கிடைக்கும் என்று எண்ணாதவராய் ஒருவர் செய்த உதவியின் அன்பை ஆய்ந்து பார்த்தால், அவ்வுதவியின் நன்மை கடலைவிடப் பெரியது ஆகும்.

Management - 3 big questions of a king

A legend is that a King told one of his Ministers to find answers to three of his pressing questions. They were: 1) What is bigger than the earth? 2) What is deeper than an ocean? 3) What is taller than a mountain? The Minister explored all the possibilities to find answers to the King’s questions.

He could not get convincing answers to convince the King. He was much concerned that he would fail in fulfilling his responsibility. His daughter, on reading the disturbances on his face, asked him what was bothering him. The Minister explained to her the King’s expectations and his inability to find convincing answers to his questions. His daughter said, “My teacher told us, ‘You can find answers to all your questions in Thirukkural.’ My teacher is right as he always refers to Thirukkural to answer our questions. You too can refer to Thirukkural to find answers to your questions.” The Minister started to refer to Thirukkural to find answers to the King’s questions. He, like a detective with a magnifying glass, was meticulously reading the Kurals as he had a purpose. When he reached the Chapter 11, he found answer to the first two questions. 

Kural 102 provided the answer to the King’s first question ‘What is bigger than the earth?’

காலத்தி னாற்செய்த நன்றி சிறிதெனினும்

ஞாலத்தின் மாணப் பெரிது

Given in time, even a trifling help Exceeds the earth. A timely help, even though small, is considered and will be treated by the person helped as bigger than the earth. Remember the old saying, ‘A friend in need is a friend indeed.’ The size of the help does not matter, but the time of the help matters the most.

Kural 103 provided the answer to the King’s second question ‘What is deeper than an ocean?’ 

பயன்தூக்கார் செய்த உதவி நயன்தூக்கின் 

நன்மை கடலின் பெரிது (103). 

Help given regardless of return Is wider than the sea. An unconditional help, like a mother’s love, that is helping someone without expecting any favor in turn, is considered deeper than an ocean. Somehow, we have become selfish and

we, before rendering any help, calculate the return on investment. When we expect something in return to the help provided to others that is not true help. Altruism is helping someone just for the sake of helping. An often told story is that a sadhu was bathing in the river Cauvery in Tamilnadu. He noticed a scorpion being carried away in the river. He wanted to save the scorpion, touched that to put that on the bank of the river. The scorpion stung his hand when he touched that. The sadhu dropped that. He attempted again, it stung again and he dropped the scorpion again. He kept on doing that to save the scorpion. An onlooker irritatingly commented, “Swami, you know a scorpion stings. In spite of that you are trying to save that.” The sadhu replied, “The nature of a scorpion is to sting. The nature of a sadhu is to help others despite difficulties.” 

When the Minister continued reading further, he found the answer to the King’s third question ‘What is taller than a mountain?’ in Kural 124. 

நிலையின் திரியாது அடங்கியான் தோற்றம் 

மலையினும் மாணப் பெரிது (124). 

The steadfast self-controlled towers aloft Taller than a mountain. If a person can remain polite and humble when he gets power, positions, personal gains, authority, and wealth, the ability to remain polite is considered taller than a mountain.

The Minister, while reading further, found answers to many of his pressing personal and professional problems. 

Thirukkural - Management - Helping Others

An unconditional help, that means helping someone without expecting or anticipating  anything in return, is greater and deeper than even an ocean, as per Kural 103.

Is wider than the sea.

Unfortunately, we have become so calculative and self— centered that we always look for something in return. Let us help others without expecting anything in turn. We are all the products of unconditional support by others. 

English Meaning - As I taught a kid - Rajesh

When a person helps another person regardless of return from that person or from people around him or the society, then that help is as big as ocean. Moreover, the underlying force driving this help is also compassion, love, affection - this compassion is as big as an ocean. An unconditional help is like mothers's love.

Questions that I ask to the kid

What is as big as or wider than ocean/sea? 

How is unconditional help respected?
